*Empress Lyana Wins Troupe Beat Competition as One Nation One Sound “Troupe Beat” Officially Launched* *7th May, 2026* Empress Lyana emerged winner of the Troupe Beat Competition organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. The event also marked the official launch of the “One Nation One Sound One Beat, Troupe Beat” initiative, held as part of activities leading to the 2026 One Nation Reggae Festival. Thirteen contestants thrilled the audience with outstanding performances blending African and Caribbean reggae influences. Throughout the event, vibrant cultural displays and authentic Sierra Leonean arts were showcased, creating an atmosphere rich in heritage, rhythm, and creativity. Speaking on the journey of the One Nation Reggae Festival, which gave birth to the Troupe Beat, Francis Momoh highlighted the heritage and cultural significance of the Troupe Beat and Sierra Leone’s historical connections with the wider Atlantic world. He described the One Nation Reggae Festival, the Creative Clinic, and the Troupe Beat initiative as important platforms for positioning Sierra Leone’s cultural and creative economy globally. Bhai Dhawa Sesay also stressed the importance of developing Sierra Leone’s unique musical identity, noting that every nation has its own distinct beat created through a blend of contemporary and indigenous instruments. A representative from the Office of the Administrator and Registrar General spoke on intellectual property rights and the importance of protecting artists’ creative works. The event also witnessed exceptional performances from contestants, while the judges, praised for their vast experience in reggae music and performance arts, carefully assessed the competition and ensured a credible and competitive outcome. In her statement, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, called on young artists to master the authentic rhythm of the Troupe Beat. She announced that the Troupe Beat has now been opened to Sierra Leonean musicians to create and perform their own versions of the beat, while encouraging innovation, preserving cultural authenticity. The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting creative talents and announced that the 2026 One Nation Reggae Festival will take place in Freetown from 25th to 30th November 2026, promising a festival that will be much bigger and better. She congratulated the winners, thanked the judges, partners, Ministry staff, and all supporters, and encouraged Sierra Leoneans to continue supporting efforts aimed at placing the country firmly on the global cultural map.
