The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs joined the ECOWAS Resident Representation in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, and other partners in a beach cleaning exercise along the Lumley–Aberdeen Beach. The initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to promote environmental sanitation, preserve the beauty of Sierra Leone’s coastline and encourage public awareness on the importance of maintaining clean and healthy beaches for tourism and national development.

Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis, participated in the exercise alongside the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Kenyeh Barlay, government officials, development partners and other key stakeholders. Her participation demonstrated a shared commitment to protecting the country’s coastal environment and ensuring that Sierra Leone’s beaches remain safe, attractive and welcoming for both residents and visitors.

The cleaning exercise further reflects the Ministry’s continued commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance environmental sustainability and strengthen the tourism sector. By encouraging collective responsibility and community participation, the event reinforced the message that cleaner beaches contribute significantly to public health, environmental protection and the growth of tourism in Sierra Leone.
