Kailahun Descendant Association Briefs Tourism Minister on the Development of Monument and Heritage Centre

The Kailahun District Descendant Association (KaiDDA) have briefed the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis on the development of a monument and cultural heritage centre in the district. The briefing which was held at the Ministry’s conference hall was aimed at updating the Minister on their engagements with the Monuments and Relics Commission (MRC) regarding the development on a monumental edifice and to also solicit the support of the Ministry in pulling this through.

Briefing the Minister, the Chairman of the association, Rtd. AIG of police, Morie Lengor told the Minister that they have been working around putting a monument in the district. The monument which will be dubbed “Kailondo Monument and Cultural Heritage Centre” will ensure that the historical legacy of Kailahun is preserved. He said the monument when developed will have positive implications on tourism and culture as artifacts and relics from the various chiefdoms of the district will be on display for tourists to see. He informed the Minister that they have secured a land for the project and also display the architectural design of the monument to the Minister.

On her part, Madam Nabeela Tunis commended the association saying that it was a pleasure to listen to their ideas and what they intend to develop. “For us at the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, it is a very welcome project as we are expanding on domestic tourism that promises to strengthen peace and unity in the country, to see the way you have crafted the project around the chiefdoms and the rich heritage that you have in the district, I have a feeling that it will have a ripple effect on other district”, she maintained. She assured them that the Ministry will support the project starting by accelerating the first stage that will get people in the diaspora to put their monies on it.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Kadijatu Kamara, the Administrative Manager of MRC, Ann-Marie Kamara and cross section of the association were all part of the deliberations.
