Chef Association Presents Laurel & Gifts to Tourism Minister 21st August, 2023. Ministry’s Conference Hall, Kingharman, Road, Freetown.

The Professional Chef Association of Sierra Leone have presented gifts and the trophy won in the just concluded West African Food Festival (WAFFest) in Nigeria to the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis. The Chefs also used the occasion to update the Minister on the outcome of the competition where they came second in cake decoration.

This year’s edition held in Lagos; Nigeria was the fifth since the festival started in 2018. It was hosted by the Association of Professional Chefs in Nigeria in collaboration with the Federation of Tourism Association of Nigeria on the theme: “Preserving West African Flavors: The Chefs Roles in Sustainable Food Tourism”.

The National President of the Professional Chefs Association of Sierra Leone, Chef Abdul Kainessie thanked the Minister and her team for giving them the platform to showcase their talents and bringing laurel to the nation. He stated that the association was formed in November 2020 with the aim of bringing together professional chefs in the country for them to have one voice and one goal. He asked the Ministry for continued support for their participation in subsequent competitions. He noted that inasmuch as it is a great pleasure to represent Sierra Leone, there are some bottlenecks that need to be fixed for them to bring more laurels to Sierra Leone in upcoming WAFFEST.

Receiving the trophy and the gifts, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis congratulated the chefs on behalf of the President Bio and the people of Sierra Leone for bringing laurels and respect to the country. She remarked that they are proud of the chefs for taking such a brave and bold step to put Sierra Leone on the International map. Minister Tunis maintained that the meeting with the Chefs signals the beginning of a more fruitful, long and beneficial journey for them. She noted their concerns and assured that things will only get better. She called on them to develop their local food brands and also host a food festival where they will invite people and showcase the food.
