Tourism Goes Digital as Sierra Leone Marks World Tourism Day 2026

MTCA, FREETOWN, 10th Sept. 2026 – Sierra Leone will commemorate World Tourism Day 2026 on 27 September on the theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism”.

The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA) has proposed to lead a series of activities, including a high-level panel discussion that will bring together policymakers, tourism professionals, technology experts, development partners, and youth innovators to explore the role of technology in modernising tourism.

Discussions will centre on the Government’s Digital Agenda, Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital marketing, smart tourism solutions, and data-driven decision-making. According to Director of Tourism, Mohamed Jalloh, the initiative aims to equip stakeholders with the knowledge and tools needed to enhance visitor experiences, improve service delivery, and boost Sierra Leone’s visibility as a tourism destination.

Jalloh noted that embracing digital technology can create new economic opportunities, strengthen resilience, and help showcase Sierra Leone’s rich cultural heritage and natural attractions to global audiences.

The celebration is expected to attract participants from government institutions, the private sector, academia, civil society, and the hospitality industry as the country advances efforts to build a modern, competitive, and digitally empowered tourism sector.

World Tourism Day is celebrated annually on 27 September to highlight tourism’s contribution to economic growth, cultural exchange, and sustainable development.
