The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and Agencies with support from SLEDP, have continued the Nature and Digital-Based Ecotourism Education training in Bo District. The training workshop held at J and M Motel, is part of the Year of Ecotourism drive taking place across eight district.

In his remarks, the Director of Tourism, Travel and Exchange Program, Mohamed Jalloh extended greetings from Minister Nabeela Tunis and appreciated the Minister’s initiative to empower local communities and improve hospitality services, noting that such efforts are furthering Ecotourism nationwide. He explained that the training will help communities identify and promote their attractions, stressing that local ownership is key to sustainable tourism. He also highlighted progress made under the Year of Ecotourism 2025.
Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Kadija Grace Ahene Kamara praised participants for turning out in large numbers. She urged them to use their new digital skills to project Bo’s attractions and share positive stories about Sierra Leone’s authentic culture, hospitable people, and pristine environment.
Facilitators anchored their sessions on biodiversity, sustainable tourism development, and the use of digital tools for marketing. They emphasized that empowering communities with knowledge and practical skills will not only enhance visitor experiences but also ensure tourism directly benefits local people. District stakeholders in attendance commended the initiative, pledging to market Bo’s cultural and natural sites more effectively and to work with the Ministry in advancing sustainable tourism in the district.
As part of the program, participants accompanied the Ministry’s delegation on sites visit, including the historic Durban Ground where Sir Milton Margai ran a clinic and his administrative building that hosted Queen Elizabeth during her visit, the famous Bo School, alma mater of President Julius Maada Bio, SLOIC vocational center, the Resource Center for cultural crafts, and Bush Garden Amusement Park and Resort. The team also visited Peace Junction, where Late President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah declared the end of the war in Sierra Leone, with plans underway to erect a monument at the spot. The Ministry noted that these attractions highlight Bo’s strong potential to draw both local and international visitors.
