A team from the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the World Bank Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project have spot-checked progress made in order to ascertain readiness of the three touristic sites at Bureh Beach, Tacugama and Leicester Peak.
With support from the World Bank, the government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs under the Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project (SLEDP) is developing world-class touristic facilities at three locations in Western Area, Freetown (Bureh Beach, Tacugama and Leicester Peak).
The facilities at Bureh Beach includes a surf club, jetty, three market shed ( handicraft and gift shop), community garden, car park ticket block and 500m boardwalk. Tacugama comprises a rooftop cafeteria, visitors’ center, cinema, library, exhibition space, media space, botanical garden, amphitheater and children’s playground, while Leicester Peak holds a Viewing deck, cafeteria, visitors center, vendor canopies, education space, scenic walking space, car park and wifi for visitors.
Task Team Leader, Alari Mahdi mentioned that the key focus of the visit was to ascertain how much progress have been achieved in the three sites, with the main objective of assessing readiness and getting a clear sense of timeline on completing the project ahead of the stipulated closing date.
The team walked through the sites, stopped at every point discussing with the contractors on the areas of the facilities that needed improvement, providing feedbacks from government and the World Bank.
The team was impressed with the standard and level of work done at the three sites while encouraging the contractors to get the sites ready on time.
Director of Tourism, Travel and Exchange Program, Mohamed Jalloh and SLEDP’s Project Coordinator, Mary Jalloh were part of the visit.
