Tourism Minister Showcases Sector Growth at Civic Day Series in Makeni

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, has revealed that the country recorded a remarkable 50% increase in visitors from key source markets in 2024 compared to previous years. She made this disclosure while speaking at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s Civic Day Series hosted at UNIMAK Hall, Makeni, where she joined fellow ministers and government stakeholders to discuss national development priorities.

In her presentation, Tunis highlighted both the achievements and challenges of her Ministry while stressing the importance of citizen involvement in sustaining growth. She underscored that tourism is not only a government-led initiative but a national movement that requires the active participation of every Sierra Leonean. “It is the responsibility of every citizen to be a Tourism Ambassador by sharing something positive about our country,” she emphasized, noting that positive storytelling is central to increasing tourist arrivals.

The Minister expressed appreciation to the organizers of the Civic Day Series and reaffirmed her Ministry’s commitment to using platforms like this to take tourism awareness closer to citizens. She maintained that promoting Sierra Leone’s good image is integral to the Ministry’s vision under the Year of Ecotourism, calling on all Sierra Leoneans to embrace their civic responsibility in showcasing the nation’s beauty and potential to the world.
