MTCA, Freetown, 8 September 2026 – Sierra Leoneans have warmly welcomed Miss World Sierra Leone, Mariyam Lorba Konneh, following her participation in the prestigious Miss World competition in Vietnam, where she proudly represented the nation on the global stage.

Upon her return, government officials, family members, supporters, members of the beauty and fashion industry, and admirers gathered at the Sea Coach in Aberdeen to celebrate her achievements and commend her for serving as an ambassador of Sierra Leonean culture, beauty, talent, and resilience.

Speaking to the press during her welcome reception in Freetown, Mariyam expressed gratitude to Sierra Leoneans for their unwavering support throughout her journey. She said the encouragement she received from citizens at home and in the diaspora strengthened her determination to showcase the country’s rich heritage and positive image before an international audience.

“Representing Sierra Leone at Miss World was one of the greatest honours of my life. I carried the dreams, hopes, and spirit of our people with pride. I am grateful for the love and support I received from Sierra Leoneans everywhere,” she said.

Mariyam noted that while the pageant has ended, her mission to serve Sierra Leone is only beginning. She emphasised that the experience exposed her to new ideas, partnerships, and opportunities that can contribute to national development, particularly for young people and women

Miss World Sierra Leone revealed several key initiatives she intends to pursue in the coming months, including promoting girls’ education, youth empowerment and skills development, mental health and wellbeing awareness, tourism and cultural promotion, and community outreach and charity work.
