The Sierra Leone Chef Association has presented three prestigious awards and five medals to the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs following Sierra Leone’s remarkable performance at the 2025 West African Food Festival (WAFFEST) in Accra, Ghana. The presentation took place at the Ministry’s Conference Room, where the team shared their success story and expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s support. The awards, including Best Country Cuisine of Africa and Best Dessert Plating, marked Sierra Leone’s growing recognition in Africa’s culinary space.
he President of the Association, Chef Keinesse praised the collective effort of chefs, apprentices, and supporters who represented the nation with pride. He noted that the victory highlighted Sierra Leone’s rich cuisine and innovative presentation techniques, which impressed judges and participants across the continent. The association’s strong showing reaffirmed the country’s place as a rising name in Africa’s gastronomic industry.
Receiving the laurels, Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, commended the team for showcasing Sierra Leone’s culinary excellence. She congratulated them for lifting the national flag high and pledged continued Ministry support for promoting culinary tourism. The Minister also encouraged the association to prepare fully for the UN TOURISM Regional Gastronomy for Africa Forum 2026, to be hosted in Sierra Leone.
The WAFFEST success has positioned Sierra Leone as a hub for gastronomy and tourism. Through cultural representation, networking, and international recognition, the Chef Association continues to advance the nation’s culinary brand, attracting attention and opportunities across the African food and hospitality sector.
