The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA) and its sub-vented agencies, with support from the World Bank-funded Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project (SLEDP), have successfully concluded the second phase of the Service Excellence Training Workshop for frontline workers in the Tourism and Hospitality industry.
The five-day workshop, followed the earlier Training of Trainers (ToT) session in Lungi. It aimed at strengthening the capacity of frontline workers whose roles are vital in shaping visitors’ experiences and projecting Sierra Leone as a destination of choice.
Over the course of the week, participants were equipped with practical skills and knowledge covering key areas such as the foundations of tourism and hospitality, communication in customer service, hospitality hygiene, reservations and booking, security, and conflict resolution.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, officials emphasized the critical role of frontline workers as ambassadors of Sierra Leone’s tourism sector. They noted that the training had boosted participants’ confidence, professionalism, and customer service skills, ensuring they are better positioned to deliver exceptional experiences to both domestic and international visitors.
The workshop concluded with a brief but colorful ceremony, during which facilitators and participants reflected on the importance of continuous training and the broader vision of enhancing Sierra Leone’s competitiveness in the global tourism market.
The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining such capacity-building initiatives to improve service delivery, empower tourism professionals, and strengthen the country’s hospitality ecosystem.
