MMTU for Ecotourism: Students’ tour Tiwai Island Sanctuary & other Sites in Bo

Students’ from Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) Tourism Department, spearheaded by lecturers with support from the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs have embarked on an Ecotourism field trip to Tiwai Island and other relevant attractions in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone. This endeavor is in line with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs 2025 Ecotourism focus aimed at connecting Culture, conservation and community.

Providing first-hand out of classroom experience, the tour to Tiwai Island Sanctuary offered students the opportunity and platform to experience the vibrant and undiluted ecotourism ambiance, and the relevance of conservation and wildlife protection. As they immerse themselves with nature, students’ gained invaluable and practical insights that broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding on Ecotourism at a premier destination for biodiversity, research and ecotourism.

During the tour of the sanctuary, the Director of Tourism, Travel and Exchange Program, Mohamed Jalloh and other staff of the Ministry, explained the importance of Ecotourism and the various interventions and activities undertaken by the Ministry, its agencies and partners it raising Ecotourism awareness and encouraging citizens to be Eco conscious.

Brief stops at Bo Clock Tower, Bo School, Njala University, and Bush Garden also provided students the required exposure to historic and touristic sites of immense educational value.
