IUCN Evaluators to Evaluate Gola-Tiwai Complex for Listing on UNESCO World Heritage List

Evaluators from International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) are in Sierra Leone to undertake evaluation of Gola-Tiwai Complex as nominated sites to be considered for enlisting on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

The team paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change followed by a meeting with right holders held at the latter Ministry.

Deputy Minister  of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Khadijatu Grace Kamara welcomed the team from IUCN to Sierra Leone. She encouraged them to feel at home as they embark on this important exercise aimed at positioning the country’s natural sites to an admirable position for continued tourism and cultural development.

 

Director of Culture Creativity and Innovation, Foday Jalloh and his Assistant, Ishmael Kamara, the founder for Environmental Foundation for Africa (EFA) Tommy Gannett were all part of the meeting.

The team from IUCN including representatives from both Ministries, EFA and other players have departed for Tiwai, Potoru, Southern Sierra Leone. They will proceed to Gola Rainforest in Kenema and Kailahun in the East.
