Condolence Message on the Passing of Dame Jane Morris Goodall

he Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs is deeply saddened by the passing of Dame Jane Morris Goodall, an extraordinary conservationist whose global legacy has left an indelible mark on Sierra Leone. She will always be remembered for encouraging the establishment of the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary and for her invaluable support to the sanctuary and the protection of the critically endangered Western Chimpanzee in Sierra Leone. Her visit to Sierra Leone also inspired the declaration of the Chimpanzee as the National Animal by the Government of Sierra Leone, a milestone in our nation’s conservation history.

Dame Goodall’s unwavering dedication to the protection of chimpanzees and her tireless advocacy for wildlife conservation have not only elevated Sierra Leone’s global profile in ecotourism and biodiversity preservation but also inspired generations to value and safeguard the natural heritage of our nation. Her vision and work continue to contribute significantly to our sustainable tourism agenda and our collective efforts in protecting endangered species.

On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, its agencies, and the wider tourism, hospitality, and creative industries of Sierra Leone, we extend our deepest sympathies to her family, and the global conservation community. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her enduring legacy continue to guide our efforts in wildlife protection and sustainable development.

End.
