The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Sierra Leone’s cultural heritage and empowering young people through its participation in the Miss Culture Queen 2026 pageant held at Sakira Lodge, Seacoach, Aberdeen.
Representing the Ministry were Mr Ishmael Abu Kamara, Assistant Director of Culture, Creativity and Innovation, and Madam Isata Conteh, Senior Cultural Officer. Their presence highlighted the Ministry’s continued support for initiatives that celebrate culture, creativity, talent, and national identity.
The pageant featured two categories: Culture Princess, for contestants under ten years old, and Culture Queen, for contestants above ten. The competition provided a platform for young girls to showcase their talents, confidence, creativity, and knowledge of Sierra Leone’s diverse cultural heritage.
Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, Mr Abu Kamara emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting culture as a means of strengthening national unity and advancing tourism and the creative industries. He also called on the public to support the Ministry’s upcoming flagship events, the One Nation Festival 2026 and the Third United Nations Gastronomy Event 2026.
A key highlight of the event was the vibrant display of traditional tribal attire and creative cultural wear, which captivated the audience and showcased the richness of Sierra Leone’s cultural diversity.
Madam Isata Conteh, who served as one of the judges, encouraged contestants and supporters to uphold discipline and trust the integrity of the judging process, stressing the importance of fairness, professionalism, and transparency.
At the conclusion of the competition, Joy Jah was crowned Miss Culture Queen 2026, while seven-year-old Idriffa Bangura emerged as Miss Culture Princess 2026 following outstanding performances that impressed both judges and spectators.
The Ministry representatives commended the organisers for providing a platform that celebrates culture, beauty, intelligence, and talent, while inspiring young people to become ambassadors of Sierra Leone’s heritage. They also extended congratulations to the winners and applauded the organisers, sponsors, partners, and stakeholders whose efforts contributed to the success of the event.
The pageant once again demonstrated the power of culture as a tool for youth empowerment, national pride, and tourism promotion, reinforcing Sierra Leone’s commitment to preserving and celebrating its unique cultural identity.
