The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with its partners, transformed Dove’s Nest into a vibrant showcase of talent and innovation during Creative Day Salone 2026. The event convened a wide range of creatives across sectors including leatherwork, handicrafts, gara and traditional textiles, fashion, visual arts, sculpting, beadwork, and jewelry. The atmosphere was electrifying, with a live band setting the tone alongside captivating cultural displays by the National Dance Troupe, while school pupils delighted the audience with an energetic performance of the traditional batta dance.

Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, commended the outstanding creativity on display and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to nurturing the sector. She emphasized the need for artists, designers, and craft practitioners to secure their intellectual property rights, noting that legal protection is critical for sustaining creative enterprises. “Protect your intellectual property,” she urged, highlighting the importance of registering designs and copyrights as a pathway to turning creative passion into viable economic ventures.

The event also provided a platform for institutional support, with the National Investment Board, National Revenue Authority, and Sierra Leone Commercial Bank engaging participants through silent presentations. These institutions offered practical insights on business registration, taxation, and access to financial services, reinforcing the importance of formalizing creative businesses to unlock growth opportunities and long-term sustainability.

Creative Day Salone 2026 concluded as a resounding success, blending culture, performance, and enterprise into one impactful experience. The colorful displays and breathtaking performances by young talents and the National Dance Troupe underscored the richness of Sierra Leone’s cultural heritage, while the strong focus on legal literacy and business empowerment signaled a forward-looking vision. The initiative stands as a powerful reminder that the country’s creative sector holds immense potential to drive economic growth while preserving national identity.
