Minister Nabeela Tunis message on the celebration of World Creativity and Innovation Day 2026

As we mark World Creativity and Innovation Day, we are reminded that every individual has a meaningful and productive space within the tourism and cultural industry, whether as a creator, entrepreneur, artisan, performer, storyteller, or custodian of our heritage. The day is significant for us as a Ministry because it offers another opportunity to stand alongside the many individuals and institutions who have worked tirelessly to create platforms where creativity can thrive.

Our deliberate shift this year to include much younger people particularly those in primary and secondary institutions in all our programmes is intentional and aligned with the spirit of 2026 theme, Culture and Creativity. It is focused on unlocking potential, nurturing innovation, and creating clear, structured pathways for participation and sustainable livelihoods.

When we bring young people into the space early, we do more than build skills and confidence, we shape a mindset, a generation capable of sustaining, reimagining, and driving the growth of the sector.

Tourism thrives on creativity emanating from our unique, diverse and vibrant cultural heritage. Meaningful inclusion strengthens the industry today and secures its future with purpose and certainty.

I extend sincere appreciation to the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, National Revenue Authority, National Investment Board, Rokel Commercial Bank, Inkee Media and most importantly, our creatives, for walking this path with us.

Together, we are building a sector that not only celebrates talent but also restores dignity, creates livelihoods, and contributes meaningfully to national development.
