The second batch of participants in the Budapest–Bamako–Freetown Rally has successfully completed its journey into Sierra Leone, marking another exciting chapter in the country’s hosting of the world’s largest amateur rally. The convoy, made up of hundreds of international adventurers travelling in vehicles and motorbikes, entered the country through the Gbalamuya border in Kambia before making their way to Bureh Beach for a vibrant overnight stop filled with cultural entertainment, music, and recreational activities.
At Bureh Beach, participants experienced Sierra Leone’s renowned hospitality as the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, the National Tourist Board, and partners organized an electrifying evening showcasing the country’s rich culture. Live band performances, cultural displays, and beachside festivities created a lively atmosphere, giving rally participants an unforgettable taste of Sierra Leone’s tourism offerings while building anticipation for the final leg of the journey.
Following the overnight celebration, the convoy departed Bureh Beach under escort from the Sierra Leone Police and security personnel, heading toward the grand finish line at Gigibonta Car Park, Lumley Beach in Freetown. Crowds and officials gathered to welcome the rally teams as they completed their remarkable intercontinental adventure, traveling thousands of kilometers across Europe and Africa before reaching Sierra Leone’s capital.
Speaking while receiving the participants at the finish line, Director of Tourism Travel and Exchange Program, Mohamed Jalloh, described the rally as a powerful platform for strengthening international connections and showcasing Sierra Leone to the world. “The Budapest–Bamako–Freetown Rally is more than a motorsport adventure; it is a cultural bridge that connects people, promotes friendship among nations, and highlights Sierra Leone as a welcoming and exciting tourism destination,” he noted.
The rally continues to bring significant benefits to Sierra Leone by promoting the country on the global stage, attracting international visitors, and stimulating local economic activity within communities along the route. From increased visibility for Sierra Leone’s tourism sector to opportunities for cultural exchange and partnerships, the event reinforces the nation’s growing reputation as an emerging destination for adventure tourism and international events.
