Tuesday 21st January 2025, Hon. Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Nabeela Farida Tunis leads a delegation from her Ministry to Kent Village a community that holds the memory of Sierra Leone in the slave trade era.
The visit offered staff a glimpse into the slave trade era, inspiring occasional moments of soul-searching and contemplation. From the notorious ‘gates of no return’ to the slave pens that typify the cruel conditions under which slaves were subjected — Kent serves as a living testament to the inhumanity that defined the Trans-Atlantic slave trade
The experience also reminded participants of the need to preserve and protect vestiges of the nation’s past, even those that may not necessarily inspire pride, so they can be inherited by forthcoming generations.
