The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Mrs. Nabeela Farida Tunis has received the report of a comprehensive Management and Functional Review (MFR) of her Ministry conducted by the Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU). The presentation was held at the Ministry’s Kingharman Road Headquarters in Freetown.
The aim of the MFR process was to strengthen Management and Operational Systems of the Ministry to ensure efficient and efficient coordination, monitoring and service delivery consistent with the development agenda of the government.
Presenting the report, the Director of PSRU, Sulaiman Phoray-Musa praised the Minister for her willingness towards the process which he said was in line with President Bio’s aspirations of transforming Sierra Leone. He maintained that the tourism sector has huge potential if harnessed will contribute to foreign direct investment amongst others.
Minister Tunis expressed gratitude to PSRU for their commendable efforts and insightful analysis into the report. She applauded the suggestions taken on board by the PSRU Review Team, especially the expansion of the Ministry’s structure and other critical aspects such as creativity, innovation, resource mobilization amongst others.
She mentioned that the review includes avenues for staff progression and growth adding that, the inclusion of Women in Tourism unit is critical for engagement at the continental and other levels. She reaffirmed commitment to fully implement the recommendations in the report by setting of a committee that will work closely with PSRU for the implementation while calling on PSRU to conduct a comprehensive MFR for all the institutions that falls within her purview to ensure that delivery is streamlined.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Edward Kwame Yankson and the Director of Management Services, HRMO, Patrick Kawa echoed the essence of the Management and Functional Review saying that it was not to disadvantaged or discouraged staff members but to ensure that systems and processes are improved for the productivity and better functioning of the Ministry.
