Ahead of its Official Commissioning, Tourism Minister Expresses Satisfaction at Rehabilitation/Reconstruction of HTTC

The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt together with key sector players in the tourism industry has ahead of the official commissioning of the facility inspected the ongoing rehabilitation/reconstruction of the 24 bedroom hotel, Kitchen, Prep/Service and 6 classrooms of the Hotel and Tourism Training Centre (HTTC) at Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU), Brookfields Campus.
Speaking to the Press after inspecting the edifices, Minister Pratt was impressed with the level of work done thus far saying that it is very satisfactory and should be completed in time for the official commissioning. She mentioned that the importance of the building when it would have been completed cannot be overemphasized, citing that the world over tourism contributes to GDP and job creation and provides the capacity to manage our natural and cultural resources, hence the essence to have a dedicated 24 bedroom teaching hotel. She noted that the students would have the opportunity to practice in the hotel on campus. She maintained that their intention was to bring this to a first-class hotel and tourism school which can compete with other schools in the world, adding that lot of work needs to be done in ensuring that this serves as a foundation for subsequent tourism educational establishments nationwide.
She added that they have provided a lot of capacity building training for industry workers and the 24 bedroom hotel and 6 classrooms of HTTC will enhance the human capacity structure of the tourism industry.
The General Manager of the National Tourist Board, Fatmata Hamid Carew, who also doubles as the project lead said the project was part of the Enhanced Integrated Framework’s (EIF) Sustainable Tourism Development and Promotion Project (STDPP) capacity building component. She said the facility will provide the practical aspect of the hospitality courses being taught and will prepare student for the workforce to offer good service delivery. She said the project is 90% completed and will be fully completed in time for it official commissioning.
